Trade policy and input liberalization: The effect on Egyptian firms’ productivity

This paper explores the link between trade liberalization and firms’ performance in Egypt combining macro micro data. Using Economic Census of 2013, we examine association tariffs non‐tariffs measures (NTM) imposed on intermediate input sand total factor productivity (TFP). In a first step TFP is estimated as residual Cobb‐Douglas/Translog production function thesecond, regressed weighted NTM inputs. Egyptian input‐output tables are used to construct weights. Our main findings show positive significant imported inputs value‐added significantly negative relationship TFP.
